If you checked out as a guest, you will still be able to access your tracking info once your order has shipped. All customers will receive an email upon shipment containing their tracking information. Please click the link in that email to view or track your order.

If you need to make any changes to an order, including modifying or cancelling of the order, please reach out to us at [email protected] within 24 hours of placing the order. Our team is working hard behind the scenes to have your order prepped, packed, and out the door as quickly as possible so, while we try our best to accommodate any requests, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to modify or cancel your order. For customers who have already received the shipping confirmation email for their order, unfortunately no changes or cancellations are possible.

We do not currently allow for pre-orders or backorders. However, if the item you want is out of stock, you can use the ‘Notify me when back in stock’ option on the product page to receive an email notification when your item is available online.

Returns & Exchanges

We happily accept returns on items within 14 days of receipt. Please note that only the original purchase price of the item(s) will be refunded. These costs will vary based on your parcel weight and location and can be found by contacting your local post office. Please note that returns must be shipped through a post office. Items returned via courier or other methods will not be accepted.

For customs information, please indicate your parcel as a ‘Return/Warranty’ with a declared value of $15.00. Failure to follow these instructions may result in your package being returned to you. In the event that Buddy Belts has paid duties or additional fees on a return due to improper customs declaration by the customer, the amount paid by Buddy Belts will be deducted from the refund.

Additional Notes:

  • Couriers are not accepted at this address. Only parcels sent via regular mail service will be accepted.
  • We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged return items. Please ensure proper insurance for your package.

Once we receive your items and confirm they are eligible for return, your refund will be issued in the same form the original payment was made within 1-2 business days. Please note that it may take 5-10 business days for the refund to appear in your account.

HARNESSES

For information on how to properly measure your dog and choose the correct harness size, please consult our Size Guide.

Important Fitting Tips:

– Buddy Belts should fit snug against the body – be sure to take snug measurements when measuring your dog. An ideal fit will allow room for 1-2 fingers under the fastened strap.

– If your dog falls between two sizes, size down. Buddy Belts are made out of leather and will stretch slightly as it softens and forms to your dog’s shape.

– Your dog’s chest measurement is the primary consideration when selecting a size. Corresponding weights, while helpful and important, are based on averages and your dog may fall outside of our size guide’s ranges.

– Upon receiving your harness, if you notice that it is fastening on either the loosest eyelet or the tightest eyelet, we recommend sizing up or down, respectively.

LEASHES

We recommend the ½” width leash for harness sizes 1-4.5 and the ¾” width leash for harness sizes 5-10.

ID COLLARS

To determine your dog’s ID Collar size, simply use a soft measuring tape to measure the circumference of their neck. Be sure to take these measurements with the same amount of slack that you would allow for when fastening their collar. Use this measurement to select the ID Collar that falls within their size range. Please note that our collar sizes are listed in inches. If you took your pet’s measurements in centimetres, please be sure to convert these to inches before selecting a size.

Our Permanent and Limited Collections are colour based. There is absolutely no difference in the design, fit, or quality of any of the products in these collections. Our Permanent Collection contains our staple colours that are always available and never change. Our Limited Collection colours are updated seasonally and are only available for a limited time. Liquidation items are products that are either overstock, samples, retired colours, or those with minor cosmetic imperfections. There is no difference in the design, fit, or integrity of any of the products in these collections. Liquidation items are final sale.

The size tag can be located either behind or inside of your harness’ maple leaf tag. For some Liquidation harnesses and older harness styles (manufactured pre-2018), sizes were stamped on the pointed end of the harness strap. If your size stamp is no longer legible, please email [email protected] and include a photo of your harness and we will be able to help determine the size.

Lay your Buddy Belt flat on the floor in front of your dog, colour side down, with the buckle on the left-shoulder side. Place their front paws through the arm loops, grab both the buckle end and strap end, and fasten them together between your dog’s shoulder blades. Choose the eyelet that, when fastened, allows for 1-2 fingers fit snugly beneath the strap. The harness should now be hugging your dog’s chest, with the BB logo tag right-side up.

Leashes attach to the Buddy Belt’s floating O-ring. When your dog is wearing their harness, the O-ring will be located on the strap that runs across their back/shoulder blades. You will notice that the O-ring will move with the leash along the length of the strap, giving your dog the freedom to explore and walk on whichever side you both feel most comfortable!

We recommend a matching ID Collar for your dog’s tags. Our mission at Buddy Belts is to offer a safer alternative to products that constrict or pull on your pet’s neck and spine. As such, we’ve made our collars with the intention for attaching ID tags ONLY and never for attaching a leash for walking purposes!

Harness Liners are easily added and removed to your Buddy Belt arm loops using Velcro. See below for instructions on how to attach your Liners.

BB Sport harnesses are put on the same way as a leather Buddy Belt harness, with a couple of additional and important steps.

1. Feed the pronged buckle on your dog’s left shoulder side through the O-ring on your dog’s right shoulder side.2.  Snap the buckle in to fasten. Use the sliding nylon keeper to adjust the length of the strap until you have a snug but comfortable fit.3. Attach the leash clasp to both the O-ring and the D-ring to ensure a secure fit.

Product Care

Like all leather products, proper care is crucial to ensuring a long product life.

Before initial wear, it is highly recommended that you treat your Buddy Belt with a pet-safe, high-quality water and stain-repellent product. Try to avoid products with silicone and/or wax as these ingredients tend to break down the natural oils in leather. Be sure to allow the product to fully dry before use. Apply the product initially and reapply every two to three months with regular wear.

If your Buddy Belt gets wet, lay it flat to dry at room temperature. Never put leather in the dryer or near a heat source. Please note that the leather Buddy Belt is not intended for swimming or other full water play. See the question below for more info.

To clean your Buddy Belt, gently blot liquid stains with a damp cloth. In the event of salt stains from winter wear, wipe with a clean, damp cloth after each wear and lay flat to dry. Re-treat with a quality water and stain-repellent product as necessary.

A Buddy Belt can be worn in light rain. As it is made of leather, it is highly recommended that you treat your Buddy Belt with a quality water and stain repellent product before exposing it to any type of water. If your Buddy Belt gets wet, allow it to dry flat at room temperature. Never put leather in the dryer or near a heat source (refer to above question for full care instructions).

It is NOT recommended for your dog to wear the original leather Buddy Belt while swimming. Getting the harness wet will not affect the function of your harness, but it may damage the leather and cause the hardware to rust – especially if worn in salt water.

We highly suggest our BB Sport line for heavy rain, beach days, swimming, and other water activities.

Yes! A new Buddy Belt will stretch slightly as it goes through a breaking-in process, much like a leather shoe. This is completely normal and expected. You will notice that the leather will soften and form to your dog’s unique shape, creating a comfortable and custom fit! We recommend monitoring which eyelet you are fastening your Buddy Belt on during the first few weeks, as you may need to move to a tighter setting.

All dogs are different and, with any new product, it is always important to monitor them during their first few uses. Dogs with little to no fur/hair near their underarm area or those with thin or sensitive skin may be prone to chafing. If you notice redness or irritation near your dog’s underarms after their first few Buddy Belt uses, they may need Harness Liners. Liners are extra-soft leather pads that can be added and removed to the arm loops as needed. Some use them simply while breaking in a new harness and some choose to wear them all the time! Buddy Belts are perfectly safe for long walks or other activities where they may be wearing their harness for an extended period of time. However, precautions should be taken if:

Your dog is a puppy or prone to chewing. While our low-cut design is one of the main benefits of a Buddy Belt harness, this also means that certain dogs are able to get their teeth around the front of the leg loop and cause chewing damage. Puppies and chewers should always be monitored while wearing their Buddy Belt.

They have sensitive fur or skin. Please see above question for more information on chafing and sensitive dogs.

They are being left alone and/or crated. In these instances, it is recommended that the Buddy Belt be removed. For your dog’s ID tags, we recommend using a BB ID Collar.

For the rare occurrence of manufacturing and/or hardware defects, Buddy Belts offers a limited lifetime warranty.

This warranty does not cover:

  • Material or hardware damage caused by normal wear and tear or daily use. Examples of normal wear and tear include scratched leather or hardware, dirt or scuffs, normal amounts of leather stretching, etc.
  • Material or hardware damage caused by improper usage or care. Examples include dried or cracked leather, extreme water damage, rusted hardware from water exposure, damage caused from heat-source drying, etc. For damage caused by chewing, please see the question below.
  • Crystals or any other embellishments that are not integral to the function and use of the product. Warranty coverage for customizations or add-ons is valid during our 14-day return period.

Oh no! We’re so sorry to hear about your unfortunate chew incident.

We use leather to make our products because of its durability and longevity. However, while leather is strong, it is not indestructible and is no match for a dog’s teeth. Because leather can be very tempting for dogs to chew, it is recommended to only wear the Buddy Belt when necessary (i.e. for walks) and to remove the harness and store it out of reach from your dog when not in use.

We understand how upsetting it may be to receive a beautiful new product only to have it destroyed within the first few days. We stand behind our products and want everyone to get many years of use out of their Buddy Belts, the way that we intended. Because of this, we have a one-time chew replacement policy in place where we will send you a free harness in the same size and colour (pending availability) in the unfortunate event that your dog has chewed theirs. Customers will only have to cover shipping fees.

To redeem your free replacement, please fill out our warranty form. Do not dispose of your damaged harness until you take a photo, as this is a required field. Please note that claims are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and not all submissions will result in a replacement. For full warranty information, please see the question above.

You may notice that the inside of the harness strap has a white piece of leather affixed to the strap with two metal rivets. This piece of leather is meant to be separated from the main strap; it has not come apart unless one of the ends is no longer affixed to the main strap by a rivet. This piece of leather holds in the metal O-ring while still allowing it to slide freely along the length of the strap.
